OUR APPEAL
Greetings and good wishes for the Festive Season!
ROSHNI (Rehabilitation Opportunities, Services and Health for the Neurologically Impaired) is a unit of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Gwalior and was founded in 1998 under the aegis Swami Swarupanandji by Smt Manjula Patankar and Smt Priti Kapoor, who were 2 very special educators trained by AADI, (Action for Ability Development Inclusion).
ROSHNI has just commemorated its 25th year Silver Jubilee as the Ramakrishna Mission itself marked its 125 year anniversary. We provide Home Management [OPD] Services to outstation children; a Special School programme for children of school-going age, with a special focus on Early Intervention; a new School Readiness and Learning Support Programme for students and teachers in mainstream schools. We also have Vocational & Life Skill Training Unit for young adults with different abilities with a Sheltered Workshop called ROSHNI ECO as well as a new Entrepreneurship & Employment cell, UDAAN. We are working towards providing Respite Care for families and Adapted/Supported & Independent Living for capable individuals.
ROSHNI Ramakrishna Mission has a life span approach and strives to fulfil the rehabilitation needs of all persons with Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Challenges, Autism and other neurological impairments in and around Gwalior. We are gradually working towards developing better Community-based Rehabilitation and Caregiving services within Gwalior
As of 31st March 2024, over 3200 persons with disability have been registered with ROSHNI for various services since its inception. ROSHNI has made every effort to reach out to the local community and the surrounding districts of the Chambal Division in the less developed parts of Northern Madhya Pradesh; and has been providing a wide range of services for people with disabilities of all age groups from infants to elders. In the past we have conducted Awareness Camps and other activities in the Rural areas of these districts and have mentored and supported the services of the NGOs in smaller district towns.
We hope to resume our Mainstream Teachers’ Training Programme post pandemic by developing a curriculum for an intensive training course in Early Identification and Intervention for Learning Disabilities and Challenging behaviour in classroom which, in the coming years, will empower and enable mainstream teachers to take up the preliminary remedial work effectively for students in their own classes and which will be aimed at promoting Inclusive Education in local mainstream schools.
The objective is to facilitate Inclusive Education for children with mild to severe disabilities, as well as to identify and support children with Specific Learning Disabilities in mainstream schools and to develop the skills of professionals and rehabilitators (who are not easily available in this region).
We are now seeking funding for sustaining:
1. The Early Intervention Projects
2. Vocational Unit & Employment cum Entrepreneurship Cell
3. School Readiness & Special Education Programme
We also would like to immediately recruit a computer technician, teacher, special educator, teaching assistant, part-time Psychologist, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Physical Educator, Music and Dance Teacher, and develop other Parent Professionals, as at present we have only a small but loyal team multi-tasking to their maximum limit to provide the current services with a growing demand for more intensive work from many parents of school age children.
We appeal to you to support the work being done by ROSHNI. Your contribution will have a direct impact on the services being provided to a wide spectrum of people facing numerous challenges in their lives and which will eventually lead to the mainstreaming and social inclusion of people with disabilities in this under developed region of northern Madhya Pradesh.
The funds raised now will enable us in getting teaching material, therapy equipment and fittings for our building and in providing effective services to marginalized persons with disabilities and enabling them in establishing their rightful place in society.
Warm regards
Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Gwalior
